NY Giants’ GM Joe Schoen opens up on Picking 6th Overall In the 2024 NFL Draft

Joe Schoen, the general manager of the New York Giants, will have to make a lot of choices with the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. That will be the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft on Thursday, two weeks from now. Five teams will be drafting ahead of the Giants.

When asked about selecting sixth overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, Schoen told the media:

“We have multiple needs. We are going into Year 3. People assume we’re going quarterback, but we have other needs. If the quarterbacks go 1-4, then we’re getting the second-best position player, not quarterback, at six, which is OK, too. That player will really help us.”

He is undoubtedly right when he predicts that at least three quarterbacks—all of whom will go one, two, and three—will be selected in the 2024 NFL Draft. Which quarterbacks are they and which other players will stumble will be the next question. Schoen also needs to consider which other teams might be able to move up and get a head start.

Four and five will be selected by the Los Angeles Chargers and Arizona Cardinals, respectively. They’ll probably start a wide receiver on each of those two squads.

In the 2024 NFL Draft, Schoen will also be able to trade up or down. He might choose to trade down if Drake Maye, Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Marvin Harrison Jr., and Malik Nabers are all out of the game. What if he decides to acquire additional picks to bolster the roster instead of selecting Rome Odunze or J.J. McCarthy?

The Minnesota Vikings, who own the 11th and 23rd picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, would be an ideal trading partner. That would be at least one extra pick for the Giants and they also acquire some more draft capital from Minnesota the following year as well.
