Nuno speaks on David de Gea Nottingham Forest transfer links and New signed GK Matz Sels

Nuno Espirito Santo has stated that rumors linking goalkeeper David de Gea to a move to Nottingham Forest during the January transfer window were “not true.” Nuno also discusses the signing of GK Matz Sels.

On deadline day, the Reds added Matz Sels from RC Strasbourg in Ligue 1 to bolster Nuno’s goalkeeping options even more. Odysseas Vlachodimos and Matt Turner have both struggled since coming to the City Ground in the summer, which led to that signing.
Shortly after the winter transfer window closed, there were rumors that David de Gea, the goalkeeper for Manchester United, had rejected a trade to Forest before Sels was signed by the Reds. Sam Johnstone of Crystal Palace, another former United goalkeeper, was also linked.

Nuno Full Of Praise For Matz Sels

Reds boss Nuno has appeared to hint that claims linking the club with De Gea and several other keepers were not accurate in his praise for their new Belgian goalkeeper.

“He’s [Matz] a good, experienced goalkeeper,” Nuno said via SportsBoom.com. “He was playing regularly for his club, so it made sense to sign him and give us another option among our goalkeepers.

”It’s not about choices and whether he was first choice or not. Matz is here because he’s a good goalkeeper. He’s been here [in England] before.

“A thousand names came out for goalkeepers that we were linked with and a lot of them were not true. He’s a complete goalkeeper. At this stage of his career, he’s completed all of the technical aspects, in terms of distribution and a shot stopper.

“He has everything to become what we need from a goalkeeper. What we need from a goalkeeper is to give us confidence. This is what we expect for him to become a good option for us.”
