Nottingham Forest’s appeal against their four-point Premier League deduction is denied.

Nottingham Forest’s appeal against a four-point deduction for violating the Profit and Sustainability (PSR) criteria of the Premier League has been unsuccessful.

The East Midlands team lost four points in March after an impartial panel found that they had over the top flight’s spending limit.

Tricky Trees overspent by £34.5 million during the assessed period, for a total of three years concluding in the 2022–2023 term for which Forest was penalized.

The club’s prompt plea and great cooperation helped to lessen the punishment, even though the sporting discipline was originally planned to be significantly worse—possibly up to six points.

After Everton’s decision earlier in the season, Nuno Espirito Santo’s team became the second Premier League team of the year to receive a point deduction for violating the PSR of the competition.

Nottingham Forest has been informed that their appeal against the four-point deduction has been unsuccessful, ahead of the last two games of the Premier League season.

The Premier League issued a statement on Tuesday confirming the ruling and outlining the reasons for the independent appeal board’s rejection of Forest’s grounds for appeal.

A Premier League statement said, “The PSR sanction applied to the assessment period ending season 2022–2023 and was appealed by the club on two grounds.”

The club contended that the independent commission made a mistake by failing to consider the sale of a prominent player it had acquired soon after the assessment period as a mitigating factor. Additionally, the committee erred by choosing not to suspend a portion of the points punishment it had imposed.

“The appeal board rejected each of these arguments, concluding that the independent panel had the right to apply the sentence right away. Thus, the four-point deduction will continue to apply.”

There is greater clarity on the work at hand on the field in the latter phases of the season, even though the outcome of Forest’s appeal against a points deduction was not what they had hoped for.

Santo’s team is still three points clear of Luton Town, who is now in eighteenth place in the Premier League rankings, with 29 points.

Every side battling for the bottom spot has two games left. On May 11, Tricky Trees will host Chelsea, a team in good form, and on May 19, they will play Burnley, another struggling team, at Turf Moor.

Luton and Burnley, two teams vying for relegation, lost to Championship-bound Sheffield United over the weekend in the Premier League, while Forest emerged victorious.
