According to sources who spoke with Football Insider following the Nottingham Forest vs. Everton match, Nuno Espirito Santo is probably going to be given a touchline ban.
In his post-match news conference, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke suggested that Forest’s manager was “very angry” after his team’s three penalty appeals were denied. O’Rourke made this claim on the most recent episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.
Following the match, the club released a contentious statement on Twitter in which they chastised the match officials for their part in the 2-0 loss at Goodison Park on April 21.
Although Forest claimed to have informed PGMOL in advance of the match that Stuart Attwell, the VAR official, was a supporter of Luton Town, the organization opted not to alter the appointment.
O’Rourke anticipates that the team will pay a “hefty fine,” and that Nuno and right-back Neco Williams will likely face consequences for their remarks made following the final whistle.
Nuno is anticipated to be fined by Nottingham Forest and face a touchline ban.
Forest’s decision to openly express their annoyance at the officials has earned them widespread criticism.
There have been rumors that after two penalty appeals were denied in the first half, the club’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, intended to make the announcement at halftime.
PGMOL president Howard Webb has acknowledged that Nuno’s team ought to have received a penalty for Ashley Young’s foul on Callum Hudson-Odoi during the second half.
That won’t likely be sufficient to absolve Forest, Nuno, or Williams, though, since the Premier League and the FA have both stated that they are looking into the situation.
The team already lost four points this season for breaking the league’s spending regulations, so more penalties are the last thing they need.
However, based on their responses to the incident, it’s likely that the three parties at the City Ground will receive some sort of punishment.
