Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness says Nottingham Forest are mirroring Liverpool’s approach in their search for a new CEO with international football expertise.
On the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Keith Wyness, former CEO at Everton and now a football consultant, suggested that Nottingham Forest is positioning itself ahead of other clubs by focusing on data and artificial intelligence. Forest owner Marinakis is reportedly interested in hiring Edu Gaspar from Arsenal to oversee all three of his European clubs, according to Brazilian reports from August 2.
Liverpool has adopted a similar strategy, with Michael Edwards taking on a role overseeing football operations within Fenway Sports Group. Wyness highlighted that this trend reflects the growing importance of data and AI in decision-making.
Wyness noted, “We’re seeing parallels at FSG and Liverpool, where Michael Edwards now oversees football interests for the group. As data and AI become more crucial, roles like these will become increasingly significant, with sporting directors evolving into football investment managers. Multi-club operations will drive demand for professionals with football and data expertise.”
