Nottingham Forest are intensifying their efforts to sign a striker before the transfer window closes this month.
Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez appears to be the top target on Nottingham Forest’s shortlist. The 23-year-old Mexican forward, who scored twice in a recent 5-1 victory over PEC Zwolle, has already netted four goals this season.
Although Feyenoord aren’t actively looking to sell Gimenez, they are aware that playing in the Eredivisie means offers may come in for him. Forest have now made it clear that they are serious about bringing in a new striker before the transfer window closes.
Nottingham Forest has reportedly submitted an initial bid of £21 million, including add-ons, which could bring the total offer to around £25 million. However, Feyenoord is expected to reject this bid, as they value Gimenez at closer to £30 million.
Forest currently rotates between Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi in the striker position. While Wood scored in the season opener and has been in fine form under Nuno Espirito Santo, his age means the club is looking to secure a younger option like Gimenez.
Reports suggest that Gimenez has already had discussions with Forest head coach Espirito Santo and Miltos Marinakis. With two weeks left in the transfer window, Feyenoord may hold out for a better offer. If Forest is serious about signing Gimenez, they may need to increase their bid soon to avoid competition from other clubs.
Gimenez, who scored 26 goals in the Eredivisie last season, could be a smart addition to Forest’s squad, although the Premier League will present a tougher challenge. It will be interesting to see how Forest responds as the transfer window deadline approaches.
