Nottingham Forest Strikes Gold with Star Worth More Than Silva & Sosa

Nottingham Forest have been making smart moves in the transfer market since their promotion to the Premier League ahead of the 2022/23 season. They’ve successfully signed players at great prices and later sold them for a profit.

One standout example is Orel Mangala, who joined the Reds for around £12m before being loaned out in January. He later moved to Lyon permanently for a combined fee of £30m. Similarly, Moussa Niakhate followed Mangala to Lyon this summer for £27m, netting Forest an £18m profit on his original fee.

With substantial funds coming into the club, Forest have been strengthening key areas of their squad. Despite already adding six new players this summer, manager Nuno Espírito Santo is still looking to enhance the team.

Nottingham Forest recently signed Portuguese winger Jota Silva from Vitoria Guimaraes on a four-year deal. Silva, who scored 11 goals and provided five assists in Liga Portugal, made his national team debut last international break.

Forest are also in advanced talks with Tallares to sign Paraguayan winger Ramon Sosa. However, they face competition from Fulham, Wolves, and Everton. Reports suggest Forest are leading the race, with Sosa potentially finalizing the deal soon.

Another Forest success story is Brazilian centre-back Murillo. Signed from Corinthians for £15m last summer, Murillo has been exceptional, starting 32 consecutive league games and winning the club’s Player of the Year award. His impressive performances have attracted interest from top European clubs, and his market value has soared to £38m, significantly higher than the combined price of Sosa and Silva.

This remarkable recruitment strategy highlights Forest’s ability to identify and develop talent, hoping that new signings like Silva and Sosa can have similar impacts. With Financial Fair Play and Profitability and Sustainability regulations, the club must continue to make calculated gambles on foreign talents to improve their standing and secure future profits.
