Nottingham Forest appeal points deduction in Premier League.

On Monday, Nottingham Forest appealed against the four-point deduction they received for breaching Premier League financial regulations.

Nottingham Forest filed an appeal on Monday against the four-point deduction imposed on them for violating Premier League financial regulations.

In a concise statement on their website, the club confirmed the appeal, stating, “Nottingham Forest can confirm that it has today lodged an appeal against the four-point sanction imposed by the Commission in relation to the Club’s breach of the Premier League’s Profit & Sustainability Rules.

” Forest indicated they would refrain from further comments at this time. The deduction came after Forest admitted breaching the profitability and sustainability rules threshold by £34.5 million, resulting in a £4 million fine.

Upon receiving the penalty, Nottingham Forest expressed disappointment with the ruling and criticized the Premier League’s stance. They asserted that their cooperation during the process was not reciprocated.

The deduction placed Forest in the relegation zone, trailing 17th-placed Luton by one point and Everton by four points. Premier League regulations permit clubs maximum losses of £105 million over a three-year period, with adjustments for Championship seasons.

Forest’s promotion to the Premier League in 2022 meant two of their three assessment years were in the Championship. This penalty marked the second instance of a top-flight team being penalized for profitability and sustainability rule breaches in the season, following Everton’s deduction.

The commission emphasized the seriousness of Forest’s breach and aimed to maintain fairness among clubs. Forest’s defense centered on the sale of Brennan Johnson to Tottenham after the profitability and sustainability rules deadline.

The Premier League aims to conclude the appeals process before May 24, shortly after the season’s final weekend. With ongoing proceedings against Everton and Forest’s recent appeal, the possibility arises that relegation from the Premier League this season may be determined through legal means post-season.
