“Not Done Yet” – Newcastle United to pursue £65m transfer target again

Newcastle United’s chase for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi isn’t over yet, as they plan to make another attempt for the £65m-rated England international, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Guehi has been a standout performer for Crystal Palace and impressed at Euro 2024 with England, so it’s no surprise that the Eagles are determined to secure the highest possible fee if he leaves Selhurst Park this summer.

How this transfer saga will unfold remains uncertain, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano suggests that Newcastle United are still eager to pursue Guehi. While no other clubs have entered the race yet, it’s possible they could join in later.

Newcastle will need to be cautious of Financial Fair Play regulations, making the £65m price tag a significant hurdle. However, the fee could potentially be reduced through bonuses, add-ons, or even a player swap.

In his latest Daily Briefing, Romano provided an update on the Guehi situation, indicating that Newcastle’s interest is far from over. “Newcastle are still there, yes. It’s not over yet. They want to try again but Crystal Palace insist on the £65m fee,” he said. “There are currently no other clubs involved, but Newcastle have not completed the deal yet, so it’s one to follow in the next days.”

Newcastle has demonstrated ambition and savvy in the transfer market recently, and landing Guehi would be another astute signing if they can finalize the deal.
