Time for another round of NHL rumours, even as we’re deep into round two of the playoffs. However, attention also turns to teams who missed the postseason, with much to figure out in the coming off-season to re-enter the playoff mix. Today’s focus is on the Buffalo Sabres and the Philadelphia Flyers.
Starting with the Sabres, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports that contract negotiations have commenced between the team and goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. Despite the Sabres’ lengthy playoff drought, Luukkonen’s emergence late in the season offers hope.

With career-high stats and signs of stability in goal, Luukkonen’s next contract is anticipated to see a significant raise from his current $867,500 salary. Possible comparables include Juuse Saros, Filip Gustavsson, and Ilya Samsonov, suggesting a contract in the range of three to four years at over $4 million annually could be on the table.
Turning to the Flyers, Kevin Kurz of The Athletic discusses the potential extension for defenseman Cam York. Despite a rocky start, York’s strong second half of the season has earned him trust and more ice time from head coach John Tortorella.

As York heads into the final year of his contract, questions arise about the sustainability of his performance. General manager Daniel Briere may face the decision of whether to lock York into a long-term contract or adopt a wait-and-see approach. Drawing comparisons to Owen Tippett’s surprising eight-year extension, it’s speculated that Briere may prioritize securing York’s future if his strong play continues into the upcoming season.
