Newcastle urged to target PSV star as Miguel Almiron replacement

Newcastle could consider Johan Bakayoko as a potential replacement for the likely departing Paraguayan.

Newcastle United could target Johan Bakayoko in January, with the PSV Eindhoven winger seen as an ideal replacement for the Magpies’ right-wing issues, according to Angus Sinclair of Football Fancast. Bakayoko has impressed in both the Eredivisie and Champions League, making him a potential solution for Newcastle as they seek to strengthen their squad ahead of the second half of the season.

The 21-year-old has emerged as one of the brightest talents in Dutch football, contributing 14 goals and 14 assists last season, while helping PSV secure the Eredivisie title. Sinclair highlighted Bakayoko’s dribbling, progressive carries, and creativity as key attributes that could make him an easy fit for Premier League football.

However, PSV is expected to ask for around €60m (£51m), making Bakayoko an expensive target, especially during the tight January transfer window. Newcastle’s interest may be influenced by Miguel Almiron’s ongoing struggles and limited playing time under Eddie Howe this season.

Almiron has only played 103 Premier League minutes across five appearances, a significant drop from his previous contributions. Reports suggest that the Paraguay international could be sold for under £10m in January, helping Newcastle recoup some funds while making room for new signings. Almiron’s departure would also free up the right-wing spot for Bakayoko and allow Anthony Gordon to play in his preferred position, either on the left wing or up front, with Alexander Isak leading the line as the primary striker.
