Newcastle United are preparing for fresh talks about Marc Guehi within the next 24 hours, as interest from Liverpool in the England international continues to grow.
Newcastle officials recently discussed Marc Guehi’s potential transfer with their counterparts at Crystal Palace, identifying the 24-year-old as their top target for central defense. Crystal Palace is firm on their asking price of £60 million, partly due to a 20 percent sell-on clause from Chelsea, which was part of Guehi’s move to Selhurst Park in the summer of 2021.
Guehi is aware of Newcastle’s interest and is reportedly open to the idea of joining St James’ Park. He sees it as an opportunity to challenge for a top-half Premier League finish and secure a regular spot in the England squad. However, his potential availability has also attracted significant interest from other clubs, including Liverpool, which was heavily linked with Guehi over the weekend.
Newcastle’s hierarchy anticipated strong competition for Guehi and hopes to advance their transfer talks in the coming days. Meanwhile, while Eddie Howe and a senior delegation were in Japan for their pre-season tour, where they faced a 2-0 defeat to Yokohama F. Marinos, discussions for Guehi and William Osula continued.
Howe commented on the ongoing transfer efforts, stating, “Our efforts in the transfer market are ongoing. I’m out of touch with all of those movements. I know we’re trying. Hopefully, we can bring you news soon. I’m not going to talk about individual deals.” Newcastle has reached an agreement with Sheffield United for Osula, paying an initial £10 million, with an additional £5 million possible in add-ons for the 20-year-old forward.
