Newcastle ‘set’ for January transfer swoop with 2025 funds ready to spend – Report

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United are likely to renew their interest in Marc Guehi during the January transfer window. However, they might face new competition for the Crystal Palace defender’s signature this winter.

Luke Edwards reports that Newcastle are “almost certain” to make another move for the 24-year-old centre-back in January. Paul Mitchell played a crucial role in the club’s ongoing pursuit of Guehi, emphasizing that it wasn’t just manager Eddie Howe who was eager to sign the Palace captain.

Edwards also mentions that Newcastle will have “money to spend” in the New Year, having failed to secure any major signings in the last two transfer windows of 2024. However, other Premier League clubs could also be eyeing Guehi in January.

TalkSPORT’s chief reporter, Alex Crook, notes that Liverpool and Chelsea are closely monitoring Guehi’s situation. The defender impressed at this summer’s European Championships and is nearing the final 18 months of his contract at Selhurst Park.

Given this context, Crystal Palace may need to lower their £70-75m valuation in January to secure a substantial fee for Guehi. However, Newcastle could face stiff competition from other clubs if they decide to make a move.
