New England Patriots given a 99% chance of signing a new quarterback through trade or free agency

In the forthcoming 2024 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots are slated to pick third overall. Regarding that pick, many people think it has less to do with whether the Patriots will use it on a signal-caller and more to do with whose quarterback they would choose.

When asked to give a confidence level rating on the chances of the Patriots getting a quarterback via a trade or free agency, ESPN’s Mike Reiss said that ”it’s almost a slam dunk”.

The New England Patriots will have the opportunity to try out a number of fascinating experienced quarterbacks in free agency. One is Kirk Cousins. Other notable players are Baker Mayfield, Marcus Mariota, Jameis Winston, Drew Lock, Ryan Tannehill, and Jacoby Brissett, who has a lot of Foxborough experience.

It’s difficult to see the New England Patriots being happy with their quarterback room as it is, particularly following a season in which they finished third in total yards per game and second in the NFL in scores per game (13.9 points per game). In 2023, Mac Jones’ decline persisted, making it harder for the Patriots to have faith in him. In 2022, Jones had a 50.9 QB rating in his debut season and was selected to the Pro Bowl. However, in 2022, Jones’ performance declined to 38.4 QBR, and in 2023, he only managed a 36.5 QBR.
