Members News: Former Sky Blue ‘Keeper Is 52 Today. ‘Happy Birthday’ Clayton!

CCFPA would like to wish its member, Clayton Ince, one of the Sky Blues former goalkeeping fraternity a ‘Very Happy Birthday’ today. Clayton was born in Arima, Trinidad & Tobago on 12th July 1972 so is celebrating his 52nd birthday today! Clayton became an established Trinidad international with 79 caps between 1994-2009.

Starting out with Delta Force FC in his homeland in 1988 Clayton came to the UK to play for Crewe Alexandra in September 1999 for a £50k transfer fee. He played 137 games for the Alex and had a number of games out on loan in 2000 with Dundee United in Scotland before signing for the Sky Blues on a free in July 2005.

Sadly, Clayton failed to establish himself as a first-choice ‘keeper understudying successively both Stephen Bywater and fellow CCFPA member (the late) Márton Fülöp. He appeared for City between the sticks only four times during 2005-06 before being transferred to Walsall, again on a free, in July 2006.

Clayton stayed at Fellows Park/the Bescot until he retired in May 2007 and clocked up a total of 169 first team appearances for them between the sticks. Returning to his homeland to help the next generation of young goalkeepers Clayton also ‘kept his hands in’ making appearances and coaching for Ma Pau and T&TEC FC.

Clayton joined the Association in 2009. We trust you have a great birthday today Clayton! We would love to see you back at a Sky Blues game/CCFPA event in the coming season
