Recent Nottingham Forest updates: Reds contemplate moving stadium amidst dispute with council over City Ground.
Owner Evangelos Marinakis has hinted at potential changes to Nottingham Forest’s City Ground future amid ongoing disputes with Nottingham City Council. The club is considering relocating to a new site due to disagreements over rent and lease terms concerning the land on which the stadium is currently situated. This move would entail abandoning previous plans, announced in 2019, to revamp the City Ground and expand its capacity.
Chairman Tom Cartledge recently revealed that the club is conducting “due diligence” on several alternative sites, including one in Toton. Marinakis discussed his aspirations for Forest in an interview with BBC Sport following Olympiacos’ victory over Aston Villa in the Europa Conference League. He expressed a desire to “build a big stadium,” although it remains unclear whether he was referring to constructing a new stadium or renovating the existing City Ground.
Marinakis highlighted the club’s achievements and ambitions, stating, “I think we have achieved great things… Now you will see that we want to build a big stadium and a new training centre. It is a great thing. It is a team that inspires us, and we want to do more. You will see in the years to come that we also have big dreams for Forest, and it is the right thing to have such dreams.”
