Mavididi ridicules Rutter’s assertion of Leeds United as the top Championship team.
On Monday night, Preston North End will face Leicester City, who have the chance to reach a season total of 100 points if they manage to overcome relegation-threatened Blackburn Rovers on the season’s final day.
While Enzo Maresca’s squad secured the title with a game to spare, their journey hasn’t been without setbacks, having suffered defeat in 10 matches this season. This number of losses is notably high for a Championship-winning team. For instance, the 2022/23 champions, Burnley, only lost three matches on their path to securing the title with 101 points.
Leicester City’s hold on the Championship trophy appeared precarious in February following consecutive losses to Middlesbrough and title contenders Leeds United. The latter, under Daniel Farke, secured a 3-1 victory over Maresca’s team on February 23rd, bolstering their own aspirations for the title.
However, Leicester City managed to regain their stride, finishing the season strongly with three wins in their last five games. Meanwhile, Leeds United’s form has faltered, with just one win in their last five matches, putting automatic promotion hopes out of reach, let alone the title.
Stephy Mavididi takes a swipe at Leeds.
In the wee hours of Monday morning, the Leicester City player took to X to mock Leeds’ inability to secure the Championship title despite their earlier aspirations. The 25-year-old shared a video overlaying his tooth-brushing routine with snippets of Leeds players Archie Gray and Georginio Rutter’s post-match interviews following their victory against Leicester. Rutter asserted, “We are the best team, I think.

” In light of Leicester’s title win, Mavididi poked fun at Rutter’s assertion that Leeds was the top team in the Championship.
The Foxes face a challenging endeavor to reach the milestone of 100 points.
Maresca’s squad has already achieved their primary goals of securing automatic promotion and clinching the title, but reaching the 100-point mark would elevate the 2023/24 season to even greater heights for the King Power Stadium outfit.
The prospect of accomplishing such a remarkable milestone in front of their home fans should fill the Foxes with excitement. However, Saturday’s match also poses a potential stumbling block.
Following their title win on Monday night, there’s a risk that the Midlands team might ease off the throttle, while Blackburn Rovers remain fully motivated with their Championship safety on the line.
Blackburn simply need a draw to secure their place in the second tier, but a loss coupled with wins for Sheffield Wednesday, Plymouth, and Birmingham would see them relegated to League One.
Eustace’s side will enter Saturday’s clash at the King Power Stadium with determination to avoid relegation, while the Foxes have less on the line.
While achieving a 100-point season would be commendable for Maresca’s team, they have already secured the title. In contrast, Rovers desperately need a point to ensure survival, making an upset in Leicester a distinct possibility.
