Keith Wyness, ex-Everton executive, suggests that Leicester City players’ mindset will be impacted by the uncertainty surrounding a potential points deduction.
In a recent episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Keith Wyness, the former CEO of Everton and current football consultant advising elite clubs, discussed the potential impact of Leicester City’s financial uncertainty on the mindset of the players. Wyness, aged 66, who held the position of CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009, suggested that any further developments in the club’s financial situation would seep into the subconscious of the Foxes’ stars.
The Premier League initiated action against Leicester City in March for an alleged breach of the league’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR). The club reported a loss of £89.7 million for the 2022-23 campaign, exceeding the limit of £105 million over a rolling three-year period as mandated by the PSR. An independent panel is tasked with ruling on the alleged breach, with potential repercussions including a points deduction for the club.
Wyness suggests uncertainty over points deduction will impact Leicester squad.
“Enzo Maresca’s team secured promotion to the Premier League for the 2024-25 season after clinching victory in the Championship this year.
Speaking on Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness commented,
“These factors do have an impact on players. It’s an external influence that can weigh on the squad.
They’re immersed in a social media environment where this issue will be constantly present.
They’ll be exposed to discussions on the club’s social platforms and media coverage. It’s bound to seep into their subconscious.
It will inevitably affect the squad and their mentality as they return to the Premier League.”
