JUST IN: “I believe we were put to the test and we performed well,” Billy Donovan said after the Chicago Bulls’ trying two-night stretch.

The NBA schedule resembles an endless marathon. In this league, there are no nights off, despite what some fans may think. Hence, whether you’re playing a minnow like the Charlotte Hornets or a superpower like the Boston Celtics, teams need to come up and compete.

This past weekend, the Chicago Bulls played back-to-back games against the San Antonio Spurs and the Golden State Warriors, and they found themselves in the same situation. Despite their challenges, the Bulls team responded admirably, according to coach Billy Donovan.

departed with a 1-1
On Friday night, the Bulls discovered that the Golden State Warriors were unwelcoming guests when they defeated them 140-131, ruining the Ring of Honor celebrations. The Bulls’ three-game winning streak came to an end with the setback, but they wasted no time in traveling to San Antonio to play the Spurs on Saturday.

The Spurs did not start rookie wonder Victory Wembanyama, but San Antonio still presented a formidable challenge to the Bulls, as they overcame a 16-point deficit to grab a six-point lead in the fourth quarter. The Bulls eventually won 122-116 after regaining their composure.

“I believe we were put to the test, and we passed. With a 16-point lead in the middle of the third quarter, Donovan stated, “a few turnovers, some poor possessions, gave up offensive rebounds, fouling.”

swift response
In the NBA, it’s helpful to have a short memory, and the Bulls demonstrated this by winning against the Spurs after suffering a hard loss to Golden State. This demonstrates the team’s resiliency and capacity to rapidly bounce back from setbacks.

Without a doubt, we need to improve. However, after witnessing the physical ordeal the men endured to check into the hotel, have a brief meeting prior to the game, and then have to play through yesterday’s emotionally taxing game in light of everything that has happened with the Ring of Honor and Golden State in general Donovan said, “It was one of those things where you have to grind the game out.”

“I simply admire and respect the way they handled themselves in the fourth quarter, certainly. It wasn’t going to be easy.” Though there are still many areas we need to work on, I believe that after last night’s game, we were able to respond appropriately when put to the test.
