The recruitment efforts for the Kentucky Wildcats’ class of 2024 have proven successful, and now the attention of head coach John Calipari and his staff is shifting towards the prospective class of 2025. Within this recruiting landscape, several high-profile players have received offers from the Wildcats, with a few emerging as focal points for the coaching staff.
Joe Tipton of On3 recently reported on two players who have been actively pursued by Kentucky in their recruitment journey. The first, a 5-star point guard named Acuff, holds a staggering 19 offers. Notably, five head coaches, including Coach Cal, have made visits to Acuff at IMG Academy this season. Other notable coaches pursuing Acuff include Rodney Terry (Texas), Kelvin Sampson (Houston), Steve Pikiell (Rutgers), and Damon Stoudamire (Georgia Tech). Despite strong competition, Kentucky, following Acuff’s official visit to Lexington in October, remains committed to securing his commitment. Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 180 pounds, Acuff, originally from Detroit, is regarded as a top-10 prospect and the No. 1 point guard in the class according to the 247 Sports Composite rankings.
On another front, the name Moreno is well-known within the Big Blue Nation, as the skilled big man hails from Great Crossings High School in Georgetown, Kentucky. According to Tipton’s report, Kentucky is in consistent communication with Moreno in their bid to keep him in Central Kentucky for his college basketball career. In addition to Kentucky, Moreno is receiving interest from Iowa, Indiana, Arkansas, Baylor, and Notre Dame. Moreno’s stock has risen recently, and he currently holds a 4-star recruit status in the 2025 class, ranking as the No. 34 player overall and the No. 1 player in the state of Kentucky according to the 247 Sports Composite rankings.
The Wildcats are hoping to secure the commitment of the top player in the state for the third consecutive year, and indications suggest that things are progressing positively. The spotlight is on Coach Calipari as he works to finalize the recruitment process and secure these promising talents for the Wildcats.
