Rotherham United announces that a deal has been finalized for goalkeeper Viktor Johansson to join Stoke City for an undisclosed fee when the summer transfer window opens on Friday, June 14, 2024, pending EFL and FA approval.
The Potters have submitted an offer that meets the undisclosed amount required to trigger the release clause in Viktor Johansson’s contract. The Staffordshire club has successfully negotiated personal terms with the highly sought-after goalkeeper, who will officially join Stoke City when the transfer window reopens in mid-June.
Johansson’s immense popularity in South Yorkshire was earned through 144 first-team appearances after his arrival on a free transfer in September 2020. His outstanding performances culminated in him winning Rotherham United’s Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards for two consecutive seasons.
During his time with Rotherham United, the 25-year-old goalkeeper delivered numerous Man of the Match performances. He played a key role in the Millers’ promotion to the Sky Bet Championship in the 2021/22 season and was instrumental in helping the club retain their second-tier status the following season.
Johansson’s nearly four-year stay in Rotherham saw him become highly respected both on and off the pitch. He embodied the character traits of a Millers player committed to the town and its community.
Johansson’s name will undoubtedly be remembered among the finest goalkeepers in Rotherham United’s history. The club and its supporters share a universal sentiment of sadness at his departure but offer wholehearted best wishes as he takes this well-deserved opportunity to further his career.
