Jhon Duran’s agent confirms Chelsea remains interested in signing the striker.

Chelsea remains interested in Jhon Duran, as confirmed by his agent Jonathan Herrera, despite Mauricio Pochettino’s recent departure. The Blues previously attempted to sign the Colombian striker but couldn’t finalize a deal.

Chelsea is set to make another attempt to acquire Duran and hopes Aston Villa will be open to negotiations. While Villa’s manager, Unai Emery, wants to retain the young forward, financial considerations might force the club to sell him.

Duran has had limited playing time, starting only three Premier League games last season, which has been a source of frustration for him. With Chelsea searching for a new head coach, Duran might be more willing to consider a move to the club.

The club has now gained fresh motivation to pursue the young talent after his agent, Jonathan Herrera, confirmed that Pochettino’s sacking won’t impact their search for a striker. Herrera further explained to The Sun, via Football.London:

“The interest has remained constant. Pochettino’s situation shouldn’t alter anything; it’s the club’s desire that matters. With the transfer market opening up, both the club and us are exploring potential options.”

While Chelsea has shown interest in securing a striker for the upcoming summer transfer window, the question arises: is Duran the optimal choice for the team? Opting for Duran seems illogical when considering the presence of Nicolas Jackson within the squad. It would be wiser to pursue a striker with more seasoned experience. Despite Duran’s youth, his lack of significant playtime this season raises doubts about his suitability for Chelsea’s needs. If he had consistently featured and demonstrated goal-scoring prowess, then pursuing him might be justifiable.

Chelsea must exercise careful judgment in their selection if they aim to establish themselves as a formidable force in front of the net. Historically, hastily signing a striker without thorough evaluation has led to unfavorable outcomes. With Jackson already in the lineup, adding another young forward could complicate the manager’s task of cultivating an effective attacking threat.

What Chelsea truly requires is a clinical striker, a role that Jackson currently falls short of fulfilling. Therefore, it would be prudent to target a center-forward renowned for their goal-scoring ability from various positions within the box.
