On the offensive end for the New York Jets, Aaron Rodgers might soon have a new toy to play with.
Badlands’ Connor Rogers threw out a trade proposal notion that would provide a fresh wideout at a reduced cost.
Wide receiver Courtland Sutton is acquired by the New York Jets; at a fair price, Sutton might help fill the Jets’ WR void.
For Sutton, a fourth-round pick seems like a reasonable price. Last year, Pro Football Focus’s Brad Spielberger suggested a deal involving Sutton before the deadline for that precise price range.
Last year, Sutton played a significant role in trade rumors, which are expected to continue throughout the offseason.
With this possible trade, the Jets would be able to add a seasoned player to the wide receiving group while retaining their valuable assets to cover other gaps.
Sutton was selected as a Pro Bowler in 2019 after six years in the league. He has hauled in 24 touchdowns and 298 receptions for 4,259 receiving yards throughout that time.
Rogers said, “He has two years left on his deal [for] under $18 million per year.” “Two more years with Sutton fits Rodgers’ window.” Since Sutton will be in his 30s, you just kind of clap your hands and let him walk away after two years, which is when we assume Rodgers walks away.
With a $15 million yearly pay, Sutton is the 16th highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL, according to Over The Cap.
Garrett Wilson of the Jets Needs a Robin to Be His Batman in 2024
The Jets lacked a reliable pass catcher to complement Garrett Wilson during the previous campaign. Wilson was able to be singled out and double-teamed by opposing defenses.
Defenses will have to choose if the Jets add a significant wide receiver this offseason. Should Garrett be doubled up? or the other man? That ought to create opportunities for the team’s other players to seize.
Sutton is a “bigger receiver and he complements Garrett Wilson,” according to Rogers. Sutton’s height and weight are stated as 6-foot-4 and 216 pounds on the Broncos team website.
“I will admit that Badlands has always had a strong affection for Sutton. His style appeals to me, particularly in contrast to Garrett Wilson. If you’re looking to put up a basketball team, Wilson can serve as your small forward and Sutton as your power forward. Joe Caporoso conjectured, “Can you [also] get you know that No. 3 who is more like a shifty player.” Then, you could have [Xavier] Gipson and [Jason] Brownlee as your Nos. 5 and No. 6, with great Allen Lazard as your No. 4. Much work remains to be done.
Trading mid-round picks for seasoned wide outs has shown to be very successful for the Jets over the years. They have signed players like Brandon Marshall, Braylon Edwards, and Santonio Holmes within the past 15 years.
With two of those players going for a fifth-round pick and another going for a third and a fifth, those guys’ acquisition fees were incredibly low.
