A court has heard that following an argument, a violent Ipswich man threatened to “kill her and put her in the bin” before wrapping his fingers around his partner’s neck. On November 26, 2018, when the woman was doing the dishes, Derek Bias, with whom she had been seeing for a year, unexpectedly broke into her apartment and restrained her by her arms on a sofa. He informed her, “You know what I can do,” and that he wasn’t going to leave when she shouted at him. Ipswich Crown Court heard that after saying, “I’m going to kill you and put you in the bin,” he threw his arm around her neck and squeezed for three seconds.
Bias, 34, of Vernon Street, Ipswich, acknowledged battery, criminal damage, and purposeful strangulation. Judge Richard Kelly postponed the sentencing until the following month and prohibited him from communicating with the victim for five years. The woman’s television and coffee table were broken by Bias the day before he put his arm around her neck, the court was told, after he accused her of cheating on him.
