Ipswich Town have been one of the standout stories of the season so far. While they sit in 18th place currently, their performances have been impressive for a newly promoted side. With notable results, including draws against Manchester United and Brighton & Hove Albion and a win over Tottenham Hotspur, the Tractor Boys have shown they have what it takes to stay up come May.

They have a strong roster featuring talents like Liam Delap, Leif Davis, Sammie Szmodics, and Axel Tuanzebe—players who can make a difference in their fight against relegation. Among their summer signings, one in particular is starting to make a name for himself and could be a valuable asset in the future.

Liam Delap, a former Manchester City prospect, has already shown his prowess, scoring six goals in just 12 appearances, ranking alongside Premier League stars like Danny Welbeck and Ollie Watkins. Arijanet Muric has also impressed in goal, tallying 46 saves (the fourth most in the league) and maintaining an above-average post-shot expected goals minus goals allowed stat of +0.6.

But the player making waves is Omari Hutchinson. Initially joining Ipswich on loan from Chelsea, Hutchinson’s move was made permanent for a record £20m last June. The 21-year-old’s early struggles have been replaced by a strong recent run, highlighted by his standout performances, including a goal against Manchester United with a curling shot reminiscent of Dominik Szoboszlai’s signature style.

FBref’s analysis shows Hutchinson shares similar statistics with Szoboszlai in key areas such as progressive carries, goals per shot on target, and tackles won per 90 minutes. With Szoboszlai valued at €75m (£63m), the potential for Hutchinson to reach that value isn’t far-fetched if he continues to develop. Ipswich fans should be excited about the future and what this could mean for Hutchinson’s career and the club’s fortunes.
