Ipswich Town is taking advantage of the international break to regroup after a disappointing 4-1 loss to West Ham United in their last Premier League match. Currently sitting just above the relegation zone, Kieran McKenna’s squad is still seeking their first win after seven games, relying on some positive draws to stay afloat.
One of the players McKenna expects more from is Chiedozie Ogbene, who hasn’t yet made a significant impact since joining from Luton Town. The Republic of Ireland international arrived in Suffolk after experiencing relegation with Luton, where he managed five goals and one assist in 39 appearances. However, he has yet to score or assist in five matches with Ipswich, a lack of production that may be attributed to the pressure of his £8m transfer fee.
I am extremely happy & blessed to be here @IpswichTown. I hope I can help bring great joy and success to this Town for many years to come 💙🚜 pic.twitter.com/AX5P54XMKV

Despite starting only three games, there is hope that Ogbene will find his form. He has previously showcased his talent, including scoring at Anfield, but his lack of contributions could put his future at Ipswich in jeopardy.
Interestingly, Ipswich had their sights set on another target for the right wing, Wilson Odobert, who ultimately joined Tottenham Hotspur for £25m instead of moving to Ipswich. Odobert’s promise was evident during his time at Burnley, where he registered three goals and two assists in 29 appearances.
Although Odobert is currently sidelined with a long-term injury, he had begun to show his potential at Tottenham, raising questions about Ipswich’s decision to opt for Ogbene instead. As McKenna aims to steer Ipswich away from relegation, the hope remains that Ogbene can deliver the results the team desperately needs.
