In a monumental move that is set to transform the lives of military personnel and the wider Defence community, ESS Defence has partnered with Co-op to launch the convenience retailer’s first-ever store on the UK Defence Estate at HMS Collingwood.
This pioneering collaboration marks a significant milestone in ESS’ commitment to enhancing the lived experience of service personnel, mirroring the retail experiences they are accustomed to in their everyday lives. The store’s product range has been carefully curated to cater to the diverse needs of the HMS Collingwood community, comprising military personnel, civil servants, and contractors.
As a Co-op franchise, the store offers a wide range of services, including hot and cold food-to-go options, a food-for-later offer, and fresh grocery lines. Customers can also enjoy Costa hot beverages from two self-serve machines, complemented by Co-op’s delectable bakery range. Additionally, the store stocks non-food items, including household essentials.
Captain Tim Davey, Commanding Officer at HMS Collingwood, expressed his delight at the store’s opening, praising the collaborative efforts of ESS, Co-op, and the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO). “This new store will undoubtedly enhance the lived experience and choices for our entire workforce,” he said.
Co-op’s commitment to supporting UK farmers, growers, and suppliers is also reflected in the store’s offerings, with 100% of its fresh and frozen meat and poultry sourced from British producers.
Martin Rogers, Director of Partnership Development at Co-op, emphasized the significance of this partnership, stating, “We are thrilled to be working with ESS, as we continue to grow our franchise presence in new and diverse sectors. This store opening demonstrates our ability to adapt and innovate, while maintaining our commitment to convenience, quality, and community.”
