Goalkeeper who turned down £8 million Nottingham Forest offer now poised for Champions League transfer.

Last summer, Nottingham Forest attempted to secure Michele Di Gregorio’s signature, and now he’s on the verge of a significant transfer.

Nottingham Forest faced considerable uncertainty in selecting new goalkeepers during the summer of 2023, with both Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos failing to make significant impacts. Turner’s frequent errors led to him losing his place, while Vlachodimos made only five Premier League appearances. Among their targets was Michele Di Gregorio, for whom Forest submitted an £8 million bid, but he opted to extend his contract with Monza instead.

Now, Di Gregorio’s imminent move to Juventus highlights what might have been for Forest. According to Fabrizio Romano, Juventus will sign Di Gregorio for an initial fee of £18 million from Monza. With 34 appearances and 14 clean sheets in the 2023/24 season, his stellar performance has attracted Juventus’ attention, positioning him for a move ahead of the next season.

Having potentially lost Turner and Vlachodimos, Forest may need to seek another goalkeeper this summer. Although Matz Sels performed admirably last season and could continue as the first-choice goalkeeper, replacing outgoing players remains a necessity. Despite Forest’s previous pursuit of Di Gregorio with an £8 million bid, his forthcoming transfer to Juventus underscores the need for the club’s recruitment team to explore alternative options to bolster competition for Sels.
