Giants Now: PFF ranks Giants among top LB units

Pro Football Focus has ranked the New York Giants’ linebacker unit as the fifth-best in the NFL. The recognition follows the Giants’ acquisition of outside linebacker Brian Burns, which has shifted media attention towards their linebacking corps. Key players include Bobby Okereke, who had a standout debut season with the Giants, and Micah McFadden, who made significant improvements in his second year. Isaiah Simmons, despite not meeting expectations as a top-10 draft pick, contributed effectively in coverage.

Okereke, recently named a top-10 linebacker for the 2024 season, led the team with 149 total tackles, setting franchise records and excelling in various defensive metrics. His durability was notable, playing every defensive snap alongside Xavier McKinney. Okereke’s leadership was further underscored by his election as team captain in his first season with the Giants.

McFadden, bolstered by Okereke, also set career highs in multiple defensive categories, including 101 total tackles and 12 tackles for loss. Simmons added depth, earning an 82.7 PFF coverage grade and making key plays, including a 54-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Other linebackers on the roster include Carter Coughlin, Darius Muasau, Matthew Adams, Darrian Beavers, and Dyontae Johnson. The Giants’ linebacker unit ranks just behind the New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Bears, and New England Patriots.
