French media praise Glen Kamara as he makes competitive debut after Leeds United exit

The weekend saw the beginning of most high-profile European leagues and included in that was Ligue 1, and Glen Kamara made his debut for Rennes after leaving Leeds United in the summer.

The 28-year-old chose to leave Leeds in the summer for a fee believed to be in the region of £8.5m after just one season at Elland Road, having joined Daniel Farke’s side from Scottish giants Rangers last August.

The 59-time Finland star clocked up 42 appearances for Leeds as the slightly-more attacking option in the middle of the park, alongside either Ethan Ampadu or Ilia Gruev as Farke’s men reached the play-off final.

But defeat meant The 49ers had to sell if the price was right for the majority of Leeds players. He is one of eight players to be sold, alongside the likes of Georginio Rutter, Crysencio Summerville and Archie Gray.

French media rave about “intelligent” Kamara after Rennes debut

Rennes made a wonderful start to the Ligue 1 season on Sunday night as they played host to giants Lyon. A 3-0 win as Kamara lasted the entire 90 minutes in the middle of park for Julien Stephan’s Rennes side.

WhoScored say Kamara managed three tackles, one interception, two accurate long balls, a key pass and 59 of 64 passes completed. A great start by Kamara and French site Maxifoot gave him 7.5 for his efforts.

“Great performance. His very intelligent positioning allowed him to recover many balls while breaking the lines. He deflected the cross leading to the third. Certainly one of the best moves of the Ligue 1 window.”

Leeds are still yet to replace the loss of Kamara this summer

While Joe Rothwell has been added on loan, Farke has made it clear he would like four new signings and one of those is a midfielder. A replacement for Kamara, one who can score a few more goals for Leeds.

Dejan Ljubicic has been targeted but Koln rejected a £3.3m bid from Leeds for the Austria international. It remains to be seen if Leeds will re-enter the market for the playmaker, who is in the final year of his deal.

With 11 days left to run in the transfer window it is expected that more names will come out of the wood work and it might be that a complete unknown could be pushing for a starting spot at Leeds next month.
