FC Halifax Town have signed Adam Alimi-Adetoro following his departure from Sheffield Wednesday, as reported on their official club website. Sheffield Wednesday decided to release the defender at the end of the previous season. His contract at Hillsborough expired in late June, and he has since been considering his future options. Alimi-Adetoro, 23, joined Sheffield Wednesday in 2022, but the club chose not to retain him as they prepare for another season in the Championship under the management of Danny Rohl. Now, Alimi-Adetoro has moved to the National League, aiming to secure more playing time.
Halifax Town has offered him a two-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2026. The team aims to achieve promotion to the Football League, having finished 7th in the table last season. They were defeated in the play-offs by Solihull Moors, who subsequently lost in the final to Bromley.
Departed Sheffield Wednesday man joins new club
Sheffield Wednesday signed Adam Alimi-Adetoro two years ago after he impressed them during a trial. Before moving to South Yorkshire, he played for Leixlip United and Athlone Town. Over the past couple of seasons, he has been a key player for Sheffield Wednesday’s Under-21 team. Standing at 6ft 5in, the Irish defender made his first and only competitive appearance for Sheffield Wednesday in an FA Cup match against Fleetwood Town in February 2023.
Alimi-Adetoro has trained with the senior team on several occasions and participated in the pre-season trip to Spain last summer under former manager Xisco Munoz. Despite these opportunities, his progression to the starting XI was hindered, leading Sheffield Wednesday to make the difficult decision to release him.
