Former Tampa’s Hall on Franklin proprietor shuts down the Orlando food hall

According to court documents, the Ivanhoe Village food hall Hall on the Yard has closed due to a lawsuit with its owner regarding unpaid rent. Documents show that the Hall on the Yard has overdue rent of around $250,000.

Claimed to be “the world’s first full-service food hall,” the area had three upscale cocktail bars, five event spaces, and nine food vendors. Even though the hall hasn’t officially announced that it is closing, a notice that says “Permanently Closed” is already hanging on its front entrance.

On April 18, The Bungalower initially revealed that the hall was closed.

Ivanhoe Place Propco, the parent firm of The Yard, sued The Hall on April 15, claiming the hall owed $249,105 in overdue rent and utilities. In addition to paying the rent, Ivanhoe Place Propco requested in court that the food hall be forced to leave.

The parent business of The Hall on the Yard filed for bankruptcy protection in July 2023, according to the complaint filed by Ivanhoe Place Propco. Records show that they were expected to keep paying the rent, but even after notices were given, they did not.

Shay’s Kitchen, one of the hall’s vendors, posted a message on Facebook on Thursday, saying they were given an unexpected five-day warning to leave the property. In addition, the statement states that Shay’s Kitchen has paid all of its debts and is seeking a new location for its reopening.

Shay’s Kitchen was listed as a defendant in the notification. We were advised in a letter attached to the notice that we are not legally accountable for any of the problems; rather, we are listed only because the landlord is required to do so by the court system,” the article states.

The post goes on to say, “The issues at hand are entirely beyond our control or involvement.”

A few years ago, Jamal Wilson, the proprietor of The Hall on the Yard LLC, met a similar end with his previous ideas. 2020 saw the closure of both The Hall at Ashford Lane in Atlanta and The Hall on Franklin in Tampa. In 2022, Wilson’s New Orleans proposal was also abandoned.

Additionally, Wilson is selling his Tampa house, as per property records.

In 2022, The Hall on the Yard opened. Due to difficulties in supplies, the initial 2020 opening date was postponed.
