Leeds Rhinos inked a three-year deal with New Zealand international forward Zane Tetevano on Christmas Day in 2020. However, the contract has now expired, leading to Tetevano’s departure from the club. The 33-year-old had joined the Rhinos from NRL side Penrith Panthers ahead of the 2021 Betfred Super League season.
Upon the signing, then director of rugby Kevin Sinfield expressed confidence in Tetevano’s impact, stating, “Once we became aware of Zane’s availability, he was our number one priority to strengthen our squad for next season, and we are delighted to get the deal done.” Tetevano’s addition was seen as a means to elevate the squad, with Sinfield expressing gratitude to Penrith Panthers for their cooperation.
However, the anticipated success did not materialize, and Tetevano faced challenges, including a mid-season health scare. Following a stroke, Tetevano was allowed to return home, bringing an end to his tenure at Headingley. Despite the setback, he is now set to make a move back to his former club, Wyong Roos.
Reports suggest that an official announcement is imminent, signaling Tetevano’s return to Wyong Roos. This move sets the stage for potential matchups with former Leeds teammate Blake Austin, now with Warrington Wolves, who joined Entrance Tigers alongside Wakefield Trinity legend David Fifita. The league, featuring notable names like Peter Mata’utia, is poised for an exciting 2024 season.
