Former Championship coach Phil Brown has acknowledged his desire to witness Ipswich Town achieve promotion to the Premier League in the current season.
Kieran McKenna’s squad has made a significant impact on the Championship this season, surprising many observers following their promotion from League One just last year. They are currently on track to achieve a rare feat in football, aiming to replicate Norwich City’s back-to-back promotions to the Premier League, a feat not seen since 2012. The competition for automatic promotion is intense, with Leeds United and Leicester City also vying for the coveted spots. Recent results have showcased nerves from all three teams as they navigate this crucial phase of the season.
Phil Brown, who successfully guided Hull City to the Premier League in 2008, emphasized the importance of composure during this critical juncture. He acknowledged that maintaining one’s nerve amidst the pressure is paramount for success. While expressing his eagerness to see Ipswich Town secure a spot in the Premier League, Brown confessed uncertainty regarding the other teams that will join them in the top flight.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, the former Hull boss reflected on the unpredictable nature of football’s outcomes.
It is all about bottle and the pressure.
“It is all about being able to handle that as a group and club.
“I’d like to see Ipswich back in the Premier League but who joins them?
“I have no idea. I can’t call it.”
Ipswich is scheduled to visit the MKM Stadium in a week’s time to face Phil Brown’s former team, Hull.
