First Stoke City signing of the new millennium is called up internationally

Viktor Johansson, the new keeper for Stoke City, has been picked in the Sweden team today. Congratulations. The 25-year-old goalkeeper left Rotherham United in the early summer to join bet365 Stadium after head coach Steven Schumacher and new sporting director Jon Walters activated a relegation release clause that is thought to be worth approximately £1 million. He was called up for friendlies against Denmark and Serbia after earning his first senior international cap in October, when he came off the bench against Moldova at halftime. His spouse is also prepared to give birth to their first kid, making these last few weeks extremely significant from a personal standpoint.

Johansson, who plays goalkeeping alongside Robin Olsen of Aston Villa and Kristoffer Nordfeldt of AIK, feels that his move to Stoke will help him achieve his aspirations of playing for his country. This week, he discussed the job he is taking on at Stoke with StokeonTrentLive, adding, “I love a challenge.” I’m excited to get going because it fits me perfectly. I want to be a part of this trip and I can’t wait to go.” Sweden placed third in Group F, behind Austria and Belgium, and therefore missed out on qualifying for Euro 2024. Jordan Thompson, his new teammate at Stoke, has been included to the Northern Ireland roster for their upcoming matches against Andorra and Spain.
