Fans of Wigan are advised to arrange their travel for the Super League matchup.

Wigan Warriors fans and long-distance runners are being urged to plan their journeys ahead of a packed weekend featuring the Super League Grand Final and the Manchester Half-Marathon. Over 24,000 runners, including many from Wigan, are expected to participate in Sunday’s half-marathon, which starts and finishes near Old Trafford, passing through areas like Chorlton, Sale, Stretford, and Hulme. Thousands of spectators are also expected to cheer them on.

In addition, approximately 60,000 Rugby League fans will head to Old Trafford on Saturday for the Super League Grand Final between Wigan Warriors and Hull KR. Sunday’s half-marathon will cause significant road closures and bus diversions, and people are strongly advised to avoid driving in the affected areas to prevent congestion and delays. Those traveling by bus should check for route and schedule changes.

Trams are recommended as the best option for getting around on race day. Runners are advised to use Old Trafford, Trafford Bar, or Imperial War Museum stops for access to the start line on Bridgewater Way, while spectators can use stops near key viewing points like Deansgate Interchange and Wharfside. Trams will run every 15 minutes, with increased services on the Altrincham line.

Metrolink park-and-ride sites offer a convenient alternative for those needing to drive, with 24 free parking sites available, including Parkway, which is expected to be popular.

For the Super League Final, fans are also encouraged to use public transport, with increased tram services on the Altrincham, Trafford Park, and Eccles lines. Those driving should be aware of a lane closure on the A56 northbound near Barton Road, causing potential delays.
