Ashley Young believes Everton can realize their full potential once they resolve their ownership concerns.
Ashley Young believes that resolving Everton’s ownership issues is key to unlocking the club’s potential. Despite enduring two points deductions this season, Everton secured Premier League survival earlier than in the past three years, thanks to a trio of home victories within a week. While Young commended the efforts of manager Sean Dyche, with whom he shared the pitch during his early days at Watford, he stressed the importance of addressing off-the-field matters.
The announcement made on September 15 indicated that majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri had agreed to sell his 94.1% stake in Everton to 777 Partners. However, nearly eight months later, the Premier League board has yet to approve the purchase. Moreover, allegations of significant financial misconduct against the Miami-based investment firm have further clouded the takeover’s prospects.
Reflecting on his time at Everton, where he became the oldest outfield player to debut for the club at 38, Young highlighted the club’s enormity and fan passion. He expressed disappointment over the club’s recent struggles and emphasized the potential for improvement once ownership issues are resolved. Young mentioned the club’s ambitious plans, including the new stadium and the efforts of the manager and director of football, Kev Thelwell, as promising signs for Everton’s future.
In his experience, Young noted the unity within the dressing room, praising both the players and the manager for their collective commitment to the club’s cause.
