After the setback of his failed loan transfer to Rangers, Samuel Edozie has rallied.
The 21-year-old winger has completed a loan move from Southampton to Belgian club Anderlecht, as reported by local sources. Earlier, his planned transfer to Rangers in the Scottish Premiership fell through after the club unexpectedly canceled the deal.
Southampton’s head coach, Russell Martin, expressed his disappointment for the player, clarifying that the collapse of the move wasn’t the Premier League club’s fault. Now, Edozie will spend the rest of the season at Anderlecht, where he’ll have the opportunity to play in the Europa League against teams like Ferencvaros, Real Sociedad, Ludogorets, Porto, and others.
Reflecting on the situation, Martin, a former Scotland international who also played for Rangers, said he was frustrated by how late the deal fell apart, as it left Edozie with little time to find another club where he could play regularly. Martin acknowledged that it was disappointing for the player, but emphasized the need for Edozie to work hard and try to make his way into Southampton’s squad.
Martin added that while his opinion might not align with everyone’s, including Edozie’s, he has the difficult job of making such decisions. He plans to discuss the situation further with Edozie, who will need to focus on reintegrating into the team and making a positive impact.
