Sunderland signed former Stoke City player Blondy Nna Noukeu to a two-year contract earlier this week. Noukeu expressed his happiness at the opportunity to work with goalkeepers Anthony Patterson and Simon Moore at Sunderland.
The Black Cats finalized the deal for Noukeu after a successful trial period with the club. He joined the senior squad at the start of pre-season and has since been training with the first-team goalkeepers, making several appearances in friendlies. Noukeu commented, “It’s been a few weeks of hard work and patience. I believe you get what you give, and I’m really happy to have the opportunity to prove myself and showcase my quality here. Sunderland is a great place for a young player to develop, with a supportive group of players and staff.”
Previously with Royal Excel Mouscron, Noukeu will join Sunderland’s senior group alongside first-choice Patterson and back-up keeper Moore, as they prepare for the 2024-25 Championship season. Noukeu added, “I’ve trained with Simon and Patto for weeks. They are great guys and create a positive atmosphere. It’s not always a given, but having a good group of goalkeepers to work with daily is invaluable. They’ve been welcoming, and I’m pleased with that.”
Noukeu signed a two-year deal with Sunderland, with an option for a third year, after leaving Stoke City at the end of last season. Reflecting on his career, Noukeu said, “I spent five years at Stoke City, progressing through the academy and 23s, and being around the first team for four years. I went on loan to Crawley and Southend. My main strengths are my work ethic and mentality, and I hope to demonstrate my attributes on the pitch.”
Sunderland begins their Championship campaign against Cardiff City in Wales on Saturday under new head coach Régis Le Bris. Noukeu concluded, “The season starts soon, and it’s crucial to be 100 percent ready. We are improving and getting stronger. The pre-season has been tough, and I believe we’re prepared for a good season.”
