Everton eyes Chelsea’s Armando Broja while Southampton enters the race for the striker set to leave.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on 1 June, Chelsea striker Armando Broja is “keen” on returning to St. Mary’s with newly-promoted Southampton, having enjoyed a successful loan spell there during the 2021/22 season.
Wolves are also interested in the 22-year-old, who might move to the Middle East as Chelsea engages in talks with the Saudi Pro League regarding several players this summer. Broja, previously a target for Everton under Frank Lampard two years ago, is now reportedly on the verge of a permanent exit from Stamford Bridge during the transfer window.
Despite a disappointing loan spell at Fulham, Everton still shows interest in Broja. The striker appeared to be a breakout star a couple of years ago, scoring 11 goals on loan at Vitesse and nine more for Southampton in the Premier League. However, with only three goals for Chelsea in the past two seasons, a serious knee injury, and limited appearances at Fulham, he seems a risky bet for Sean Dyche.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future at Everton is uncertain with only a year left on his contract, while recent signings Beto and Youssef Chermiti have yet to make a significant impact. Chelsea’s previous £50 million asking price for Broja in January has likely decreased due to his lack of action, but he still appears out of Everton’s budget.
Chelsea is keen to sell academy products to balance their finances after extensive spending. Broja, needing a move to overcome recent setbacks, might find the best opportunity for regular game time with a return to Southampton rather than a risky switch to Goodison Park.
Additionally, Dyche reportedly wants to offer Kalvin Phillips a chance to regain form after a poor loan at West Ham, though this may be challenging if Manchester City insists on selling.
