Everton are a club renowned for their puzzling transfer decisions across the last decade, but since Kevin Thelwell was employed, those blunders have been few and far between.
Instantly understanding the severity of their position, he went to work forging a far more sustainable future for the Toffees, which did include some painful sales.
Only now are they reaping the rewards of these sacrifices, with a summer that promised little somehow delivering big.
However, it seems they have not quite completely ironed out all of their transfer targets, with one strange alternative now appearing on their shortlist…
Everton are in the race to sign Eddie Nketiah
Everton’s latest apparent target has been detailed by CaughtOffside, who suggest that a new striker is on Thelwell’s agenda.
With Iliman Ndiaye already signed this summer, there is little reason why a new marksman would be needed, but as Dominic Calvert-Lewin refuses to sign a new contract, perhaps this ambiguity could spur on another signing.

The report reads: ‘As well as Marseille, CaughtOffside understands Arsenal’s Nketiah is also attracting interest from Brentford, Crystal Palace, Everton, West Ham United and Wolves.
‘Sources believe these clubs could also make moves for Nketiah soon, so Marseille may need to up their offer if they are serious about luring him to France.’
Where would Eddie Nketiah fit in at Everton?
Whilst the touted price tag is far too high for Everton, and likely just a benchmark to still gain a huge fee from his sale, it is a wonder where Nketiah might fit in within Dyche’s system at all.
After all, having played alone up front at times for Arsenal, even there he has struggled despite being surrounded by a plethora of attacking talent.
If he could only muster five Premier League goals last season whilst being supplied by Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Odegaard and more, it’d be interesting to see how he might do feeding off scraps, with Dwight McNeil and Jack Harrison pumping high balls into the box for him to attack.
He could well play off a larger striker, but that is surely a role that new man Ndiaye will occupy should Abdoulaye Doucoure be dropped.
And the two would likely struggle to play together, as neither will challenge in the air with much success.
This seems like a strange move and a tenuous link, with his price tag the outstanding hurdle that Thelwell will not be too keen to overcome.
