Evaluating Nectar Triantis’s chances in Sunderland for 2024 and 2025

Male Dugdale remarks,

“Triantis deserves credit for his efforts in figuring out how to get the most out of his loan.” Although he didn’t seem to thrive at Hibernian at first, it is admirable that he persevered and eventually triumphed. Now, it’s up to Triantis and the club to determine how he fits into our future plans. We have a lot of options in midfield already, some of which may come and go, but we haven’t always been successful, particularly when Corry Evans isn’t playing. Despite Nectar’s achievements, we still need a holding midfielder. However, if we can help him grow, either by providing him with enough playing time as a support player or by getting him another loan, then both Sunderland and he could gain. Rather than sending him back out as a defender, let’s loan him back out for six months to hone his midfielding skills if we can’t get him more playing time. He might be a serious candidate for a starting position in the second half of 2024–2025 if we handle this effectively, or at the at least, a marketable asset.

Tom Albrighton remarks,

“Triantis is an interesting one. His loan spell at Hibernian initially seemed to have been a mistake, as he dropped out of the starting eleven due to a string of relatively poor performances at center back.” But as time goes on, things are different, with Nectar positioned a little higher on the pitch. In my opinion, we should focus on supporting Triantis wherever he succeeds going forward; if that means acknowledging that midfield is where his future is, then so be it.

Given the scarcity of defensive midfielders, it may be best for both the player and the team to give Triantis the opportunity to train in that role during preseason in anticipation of a potential loan. As we’ve seen with other signings, the inability to settle into a position has hampered their own development. Being patient is essential for any young player, and because he moved to a whole new place on the other side of the globe, it is only right that he be given some time to adjust to his new role.

While it may not have been the original intention when Triantis signed, the club’s policy would be improved by adjusting to the current situation rather than sticking to its previously strict guidelines.
