Southampton fans might finally witness the conclusion of a transfer saga that has lingered all summer.
Russell Martin is focused on minimizing distractions as he prepares Southampton’s squad for the Premier League. The team kicks off their pre-season friendlies on Friday night against National League side Eastleigh, potentially showcasing several new faces.
Martin has already brought in seven new signings this summer, with Flynn Downes being the most recent and potentially crucial addition. However, Che Adams will not be part of the squad.
Adams’ future has been uncertain since his contract expired in June. Despite a new contract offer and talks with other clubs, it now seems he won’t return to Southampton next season.
In an interview on The Stomping Ground YouTube channel, Martin confirmed Adams’ departure. While discussing dressing room music with Downes, Martin mentioned that Adams, who previously managed the music, is no longer with the team.
Fans had been waiting for news on Adams’ future, and this confirmation came unexpectedly from a casual comment by Martin.
It now looks like Adams’ next destination could be Italy. Torino is reportedly keen on signing him after his departure from Southampton. Adams had also been in talks with Wolves and received interest from Nottingham Forest and a Saudi Arabian club.
According to Tutto Mercato Web, Torino has made new contacts with Adams’ team, but there are salary negotiations to resolve. Adams wants a higher salary than Torino is willing to pay, but the club is proposing a lower base salary with performance-based bonuses.
Adams, currently on holiday after the Euros, will likely be keen to finalize his future soon.
