Bologna’s point was saved in their match against Udinese earlier today by Alexis Saelemaekers, a loanee from AC Milan. With a free kick that took the goalkeeper—and possibly the player—by surprise, he struck the back of the net.

Saelemaekers has performed admirably for Bologna, helping to score three goals and scoring four himself after joining on a season-long loan in the summer. Today’s fourth strike came as Bologna defeated Udinese to secure a point.

Life was extremely difficult for Thiago Motta’s team after they let up the first goal in the first half and were given a red card at the beginning of the second. But Saelemaekers came up for a free kick in the 78th minute and finished well to take the goalie by surprise.

It appeared more like a fluke than anything, but we’ll never know for sure if that was his intention. Regardless, the Belgian has again demonstrated his significance, and Bologna is anticipated to activate the €9.5 million option in his contract this summer.
