The Philadelphia Eagles have been highly active in the early stages of NFL free agency, continuing their trend by making another significant move on Thursday to bolster their defensive lineup.
In a deal brokered with former Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Devin White, the Eagles agreed to a one-year contract worth $7.5 million, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
At 26 years old, White, who was selected as the No. 5 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft from LSU, brings a wealth of experience from his five seasons with the Buccaneers.
Notably, he earned second-team All-Pro honors in 2021 and secured a Pro Bowl nod in 2022, showcasing his impact across 75 starts in 76 appearances.
Additionally, White played a crucial role in Tampa Bay’s Super Bowl LV triumph during his rookie campaign. Despite a slight decrease in playing time towards the end of last season, White’s contributions remained significant, tallying 83 tackles, 2.5 sacks, nine QB hits, and two interceptions in his final year with the Buccaneers.
Joining the Eagles, White adds depth to a defensive unit that has already seen notable acquisitions, including former New York Jets defensive end Bryce Huff and ex-New Orleans Saints linebacker Zack Baun.
Moreover, his reunion with veteran safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson further strengthens the defensive lineup in Philadelphia.
