Don Sweeney discusses Bruins’ goalie strategy for playoffs.

Jim Montgomery has kept his strategy under wraps.

Heading into the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Boston Bruins maintained a consistent goalie rotation throughout the regular season. However, uncertainties loom over how head coach Jim Montgomery will deploy Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman in the postseason. While Ullmark held the starting position for the entirety of the first playoff round last season, Swayman was chosen for the crucial Game 7 against the Florida Panthers. Reflecting on Boston’s early exit from the playoffs last year, Montgomery admitted he would have handled the situation differently.

Addressing reporters after the regular-season finale, Montgomery hinted that the team’s playoff strategy would likely be revealed before Game 1 on Saturday. Meanwhile, General Manager Don Sweeney expressed confidence in the Bruins’ goalie duo and the team’s overall plan for the playoffs. Sweeney emphasized the strength of the goaltending unit over the past couple of years and reassured that the internal noise wouldn’t affect the team’s approach. He noted that the goalies are aware of the plan and understand their roles within the team structure.

When pressed to disclose the specifics of the plan, Sweeney declined, indicating that it wasn’t his responsibility to do so. As a result, fans may have to wait until Saturday’s Game 1 against the Toronto Maple Leafs at TD Garden to find out who will be the starting goalie.
