Dodgers’ Dave Roberts Praises Bottom Half of Lineup for Saturday’s Win

Opponents of the Los Angeles Dodgers should be aware by now that a hit from Miguel Rojas often signals a win for the team. This trend continued on Saturday against the Los Angeles Angels, as Rojas notched two hits, helping the Dodgers secure a 7-2 victory.

The bottom third of the lineup came through for the Dodgers, with Cavan Biggio, Gavin Lux, and Rojas contributing six of the team’s nine hits and scoring five of the seven runs. Lux initiated the scoring with a third-inning homer, his first since May 7.

“When the bottom of the lineup produces collectively, it makes our offense difficult to navigate,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “You don’t want to be too top-heavy, which we’ve struggled with for much of the year.”

Lux’s home run, although not as powerful as Shohei Ohtani’s, was a positive indicator. After a slow start to the season, Lux has been focusing on hitting to the opposite field, demonstrated by his RBI single to left field in the fifth inning.

“Gavin had a really nice night,” Roberts remarked. “What impressed me the most was how he handled tough pitches. During the at-bat when he homered, he fought off pitches to earn one he could drive. Hitting the ball out of the park was likely the last thing on his mind.

“When you have a good at-bat, spoil pitches, and put yourself in a good spot, good things happen. Tonight showed what Gavin is capable of doing.”
