In 2023, former Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers was set to lead his new team, the New York Jets, to new heights.
The organization hasn’t sniffed the postseason since 2010 and the acquisition of Rodgers hoped to change the franchise’s fortunes.
Then, just four plays into Week 1, Rodgers went down with a season-ending Achilles injury.
Rodgers is back healthy and ready to go in 2024, but he is 40 years old and many wonder just how long he intends to play.
On Saturday, Rodgers was asked that question during an interview with the NFL Network (per Judy Battista).
He was asked about his pledge to have two good years with the Jets and whether that meant, because of his injury last season, that he only had one year left.
“I would say that there is a lot of sentiment that last year wasn’t a great year for me,” Rodgers quipped. “So I’d like to still have two great years.”
When it came to how well the Jets would fare this season after ending ‘23 with a 7-10 record, the quarterback asked for patience from New York fans.
“It’s going to be an up-and-down season, probably a lot more ups than downs, but just stick with us,” said Rodgers. “Obviously we want to stay healthy. Obviously, we’ve got big dreams. It’s been a rough stretch the last 13 years, but the tide is turning.”
After Rodgers was carted off the field last September, former first-round pick Zack Wilson and veteran Tim Boyle took turns under center.
The result was not what Jets fans were hoping for, but they are optimistic that this will finally be their year with a healthy Rodgers.
