Although Sunderland has not been very active during the transfer window, there might be a late rush of transactions.
Despite not adding to their attacking lineup during the January transfer window, Sunderland may be about to make history as a winger from the Belgian League is reportedly on his way to the Stadium of Light.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Michael Beale’s side have agreed a permanent deal to take Englishman Romaine Mundle from Standard Liege to Wearside.
The former Tottenham prospect’s six-month stay in the Benelux country will come to an end with this acquisition, and Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri has confirmed those reports.
The 20-year-old Mundle joined Tottenham’s under-23 team two years ago after rising through the ranks. However, after failing to make the first team in north London, Mundle moved to the Belgian Pro League in an attempt to get playing time.
Though he has made a few appearances, his time overseas will come to an end, and he will join a young Sunderland team as the newest member.
With Alex Pritchard reportedly likely to leave the club, and Jack Clarke coming under interest from Lazio, Beale might want to add to his squad.
Mundle may not have the experience of the potentially departed duo, but in a young squad that boasts the likes of Jobe Bellingham, Dan Neil, Chris Rigg and more, Mundle would still likely fit in with the dynamics of the group and impress for the future, with a contract set to be signed until 2027.
