Daniel Farke has made three changes to his team for Friday night’s Championship match between Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.
Leeds United’s next match against Millwall is in nine days after tonight’s full-time loss to Sheffield Wednesday. Before tonight, the Whites had to fit practically four games into one day, so they should be happy with the remaining matches.
Over the past few games, traffic has become more of a problem, and Daniel Farke will be making three more changes in South Yorkshire tonight. Sam Byram is not included in the squad for tonight’s match because he played 88 minutes on Tuesday and needs to be handled carefully following his most recent layoff.
In place of the 30-year-old, Junior Firpo resumes at left back. In defense, Connor Roberts is replaced on the other side by Archie Gray, who is called up following his midweek break.
Roberts sits on the bench tonight despite having been quietly impressive over the past few games and contributing significantly to the dressing room. Wilfried Gnonto replaces Daniel James in the attacking lineup, despite James’ goal on Tuesday night.
Sam Allison will be officiating tonight’s match against Sheffield Wednesday. Blake Antrobus, Gavin Ward, and Matthew Smith will assist him as fourth official. The teams’ most recent meeting in Sheffield took place in October 2019, ending in a dull 0-0 draw at Hillsborough.
Leeds United: Wilfried Gnonto, Georginio Rutter, Crysencio Summerville, Patrick Bamford; Illan Meslier; Archie Gray, Joe Rodon, Ethan Ampadu, Junior Firpo; Ilia Gruev, Glen Kamara.
The following players are the stand-ins: Sam Byram, Joe Gelhardt, Connor Roberts, Joel Piroe, Karl Darlow, Charlie Cresswell, Liam Cooper, Daniel James.
